BIMI Record Checker
Check the BIMI record that makes your logo appear next to your emails, and whether your DMARC policy qualifies for it.
How it works
BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) lets supporting mail apps show your logo beside messages from your domain. It is a TXT record at default._bimi.yourdomain.com that points to your logo, and optionally to a certificate that proves you own the mark.
This tool reads that record, validates its tags, and also checks the part that stops most people: BIMI only works when the domain has a DMARC policy of quarantine or reject applied to 100% of mail.
| Tag | Meaning |
|---|---|
v=BIMI1 | Version. Must come first. |
l= | https URL of the logo, an SVG Tiny-PS file. |
a= | https URL of the VMC or CMC certificate (.pem). Needed by Gmail. |
What it cannot check: browsers do not let this page download your logo or certificate from another site, so it checks only the URLs. Validate the SVG file and certificate with your certificate provider. To fix the DMARC requirement, use the DMARC Record Generator.
Frequently asked
What do I need before BIMI will work?
An enforcing DMARC policy (quarantine or reject at 100%), a square SVG Tiny-PS logo hosted on https, and the BIMI TXT record. For Gmail's verified checkmark you also need a VMC or CMC certificate.
Is a certificate required?
Gmail requires one to show the logo. Some other mail providers display logos without a certificate, so a record with only l= can still work for them.
Why is my logo not showing even though the record is valid?
Mail apps decide for themselves, and most require good sending reputation as well as DMARC. The logo also only appears on messages that pass DMARC, and may take days to start after you publish.
What logo format is accepted?
An SVG that follows the Tiny-PS profile: square, no scripts, no external references. A normal SVG exported from a design tool often has to be adjusted before it passes.
What is the selector?
The label before ._bimi in the DNS name. It is almost always "default", and other values are used only by senders who publish several logos.
