The ZIP has an Xcode-ready AppIcon.appiconset folder and Android mipmap folders.

What this app icon generator makes

From letters, an emoji or your logo it produces a full set of launcher icons: the thirteen sizes iOS and iPadOS use, from 20 up to the 1024 pixel App Store image, five Android launcher densities from mdpi to xxxhdpi, optional round Android versions, and a 512 pixel image for the Google Play listing. The ZIP is organised so you can drop the iOS folder into your Xcode asset catalog and the Android folders into your project's res directory.

      iOS rules to know

App Store icons must be square, opaque and free of rounded corners, because iOS applies the corner mask itself. This tool always fills the whole square with your background colour so there is no transparency to cause a rejection. The preview rounds the corners only to show how it will look on a device. Avoid placing text or key shapes close to the edges, where the mask trims the image.

These are legacy launcher icons. Current Android versions also support adaptive icons made of separate foreground and background layers, which you set up in Android Studio. The files here work as a fallback for older devices and as a ready source for the Play listing.

      Getting a sharp result

Start with a square image of 1024 by 1024 pixels or more, with the artwork centred and some breathing room around it. Each size is scaled down in steps so small icons stay crisp. Check that the design still reads at the smallest sizes, and test colours with the Color Contrast Checker. If you also need a website icon, use the Favicon Generator.

      Frequently asked

      Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The icons are drawn and resized by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to Curious Assistant or anywhere else.

Why is the iOS icon not transparent or rounded?

Apple requires App Store icons to be square and opaque, and iOS rounds the corners itself. Transparent or pre-rounded icons can be rejected or look wrong, so the tool always fills the square with your background colour.

What size should my original image be?

Use 1024 by 1024 pixels or larger. The largest icon is 1024 pixels, and a smaller original will look soft at that size. The tool warns you when your image is smaller.

Does this make Android adaptive icons?

No. It makes the legacy square and round launcher PNGs and a Play Store image. Adaptive icons need separate foreground and background layers, which you can create in Android Studio's Image Asset tool using the 512 pixel image as a start.

How do I use the iOS files?

Open your project's Assets catalog in Xcode, then replace the AppIcon set with the AppIcon.appiconset folder from the ZIP. Its Contents.json already points to every file.

Can I use an emoji as an app icon?

Yes. Type an emoji in the text box. It is drawn with your device's emoji font and saved into the PNGs, so the downloaded files keep the look you see here.
