How it's calculated
Words are counted by splitting on whitespace. Sentences are counted by looking for ., ! or ? followed by a space or the end of the text — abbreviations (like "e.g.") can occasionally inflate this count. Reading time assumes 200 words per minute, a commonly used average adult silent-reading speed.
Read-aloud uses your browser's built-in speech synthesis, so voice and quality depend on your device and browser rather than anything this page controls.

Why might the sentence count seem off?
The counter looks for sentence-ending punctuation followed by a space, so abbreviations like "Dr." or "e.g." can be miscounted as sentence breaks. It's a reasonable estimate, not a linguistic parser.
Why doesn't read-aloud work for me?
It relies on your browser's built-in speech synthesis (the Web Speech API), which isn't available in every browser. If the button is disabled, your browser doesn't support it.
