Length, weight or temperature — pick a category, type a value in either field, and the other one updates as you type.

How it's calculated

Length and weight conversions go through a common base unit — meters for length, kilograms for weight. Each unit has a fixed factor relative to that base, so converting between any two units is: multiply by the source unit's factor, then divide by the target unit's factor.

Temperature doesn't work that way, because Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin don't share a zero point. Conversions use the standard formulas: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15.

Frequently asked

Why is temperature handled differently from length and weight?

Length and weight units are proportional to each other, so converting is one multiplication. Temperature scales have different zero points, so converting requires a small formula (for example, Celsius to Fahrenheit multiplies by 9/5 and adds 32) rather than a straight multiplication.

Which unit is the "from" and which is the "to"?

Whichever field you type into becomes the source — the other field updates to match. Use the swap button between them to flip which side you're editing.
